CRITERIA:
Confidence, Leadership, Team Builder, Visionary

EVALUATION:
During my senior year of high school, I was elected as the captain of our varsity cheer squad. It was my responsibility to lead the team and make sure everyone stayed motivated throughout the year. During competition season, we worked tirelessly perfecting our competition routine with daily practices that could last up to five hours. I had to be a positive role model and not let the stress or long hours of practicing get to me. I made sure we were working together to accomplish each task when learning the routine, fully supporting each other when we made mistakes. It is easy to get frustrated when some people are not as motivated as the rest of the team and do not give their all each and every practice. As captain, I would confront the issues in a calm way and remind everyone of our goal to win the competitions at the end of the season which could only be accomplished by giving one hundred percent every practice. By keeping my team accountable, working together, and supporting each other in our successes and failures, we were able to grow as a team and fully trust one another. After months of practice, we won second place in our first competition and overall grand champions of the high school division in our last competition.
Since high school, my leadership skills and self-confidence have only grown. I can still improve when it comes to sharing my opinion and speaking up even if it is different from the group. By taking on more leadership positions and demanding roles at work, I hope to practice and improve my leadership skills and become a well-rounded leader.
